Stressed economies respond more strongly to climate extremes

چکیده
Abstract Economies experience stress for various reasons such as the global Covid-19 pandemic beginning in 2020. The associated lock-downs caused local economic losses and disruption of international supply chains. In addition, alters effects short-term shocks by climate extremes, especially their propagation through network resulting repercussions. Here we show that adverse indirect impacts tropical cyclones, river floods, heat on consumption are strongly enhanced when economy is under stress. This compound effect results from aggravated scarcity causing higher consumer prices. Modeling during Covid-19, find a stressed with current structure, due to extremes double USA triple China. simulated intensify grow stronger. Our emphasize amplifying role interaction between change its socioeconomic backdrop.

Climate extremes and climate change: The Russian heat wave and other climate extremes of 2010
[1] A global perspective is developed on a number of high impact climate extremes in 2010 through diagnostic studies of the anomalies, diabatic heating, and global energy and water cycles that demonstrate relationships among variables and across events. Natural variability, especially ENSO, and global warming from human influences together resulted in very high sea surface temperatures (SSTs) i...

The effects of climate change on marine ecosystems and in particular on marine top predators are difficult to assess due to, among other things, spatial variability, and lack of clear delineation of marine habitats. The banks of West Greenland are located in a climate sensitive area and are likely to elicit pronounced responses to oceanographic changes in the North Atlantic. The recent increase...
متن کاملPrecipitation Extremes Under Climate Change
The response of precipitation extremes to climate change is considered using results from theory, modeling, and observations, with a focus on the physical factors that control the response. Observations and simulations with climate models show that precipitation extremes intensify in response to a warming climate. However, the sensitivity of precipitation extremes to warming remains uncertain w...
متن کاملDiversification rates are more strongly related to microhabitat than climate in squamate reptiles (lizards and snakes).
Patterns of species richness among clades can be directly explained by the ages of clades or their rates of diversification. The factors that most strongly influence diversification rates remain highly uncertain, since most studies typically consider only a single predictor variable. Here, we explore the relative impacts of macroclimate (i.e., occurring in tropical vs. temperate regions) and mi...
متن کاملSensitivity of tropical precipitation extremes to climate change
Precipitation extremes increase in intensity over many regions of the globe in simulations of a warming climate1–3. The rate of increase of precipitation extremes in the extratropics is consistent across global climate models, but the rate of increase in the tropics varies widely, depending on the model used3. The behaviour of tropical precipitation can, however, be constrained by observations ...
